Rajya Sabha election 2026: 37 candidates from different political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and two independents filed their nominations on Thursday for the 37 vacant Rajya Sabha seats from 10 states of the country. Interestingly, Pawar is set to be elected unopposed as the number of candidates matched the number of seats. Seven Rajya Sabha seats in Maharashtra are going to polls. The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance has fielded four candidates, Ramdas Athawale, Vinod Tawde, Maya Waghmare, and Ramrao Vadkute. Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar and late leader Ajit Pawar's son Parth Pawar have filed their nominations on behalf of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The ruling alliance, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has declared party spokesperson Jyoti Waghmare as its sole candidate. On the other hand, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance has nominated veteran leader Sharad Pawar as its candidate.
