Sohail Khan Apologizes for Riding Without Helmet, Promises to Prioritize Safety

Actor and producer Sohail Khan has issued a public apology after a video of him riding a high-end motorcycle on Mumbai roads without a helmet drew criticism online. The clip, which circulated widely on social media, showed him riding his ₹17 lakh bike in the Bandra area, prompting concerns over road safety and compliance with traffic regulations. Responding to the backlash, Sohail addressed the issue through a statement shared on his Instagram account. Acknowledging that his actions were wrong, the actor urged other riders to prioritise safety and admitted that he struggles with wearing protective headgear. “I would like to request all the bike riders please wear helmets. I avoid wearing them at times as I feel claustrophobic, but that’s no excuse to not wear one. Riding has always been my passion since childhood. It began with BMX cycles, and now I ride bikes. I mostly ride late nights when there is not much traffic to cut risks that too, at a slow pace and with my car following me." A post shared by Sohail Khan (@sohailkhanofficial) In the same post, Sohail assured both fellow riders and traffic authorities that he would make a conscious effort to follow the rules going forward. “I assure fellow riders that I will make a genuine effort to overcome my claustrophobia and wear a helmet, so please bear with me. My sincere apologies to the traffic authorities, and I assure them that I will follow all the rules henceforth. I salute all the riders for wearing their helmets at all times despite the discomfort as it is necessary for our safety. It is better to be safe than sorry. Once again, I am really sorry." Sohail Khan has often spoken about his long-standing interest in biking, which he says dates back to his childhood. However, the recent incident reignited a wider conversation online about celebrity responsibility and road safety, particularly in a city known for heavy traffic and frequent accidents. On the personal front, Sohail was previously married to fashion designer Seema Sajdeh. The couple, who tied the knot in 1998, announced their separation after 24 years of marriage and were officially divorced in 2022. They continue to co-parent their two sons, Nirvan and Yohan.
