Aam Aadmi Party Suffers Setback as Three Punjab MLAs Resign Amid Government Criticism

Political turmoil has intensified within the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab. Three party MLAs have parted ways in two days. Amritsar North MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh has also resigned from the membership of the Punjab Assembly. He submitted his resignation to the Assembly Speaker on around 1 November. Earlier, Samana MLA Chetan Singh Jauramajra and Sanaur MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanamajra had resigned from the primary membership of the party. Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh is a former IPS officer. He was associated with the investigation of the 2015 Bargari sacrilege and related police firing cases while he was in the Punjab Police. He had left the police service and joined the Aam Aadmi Party on the issue of justice in these cases. Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh's differences with the Bhagwant Mann government had begun to surface from the beginning. He had criticized the government over the delay in getting justice in the 2015 Bargari sacrilege and police firing cases. In January, he had assured the chairmanship of the 2023 government committee of the assembly. Vijay Pratap Singh, a former IPS officer, had resigned from the primary membership of the party in connection with the investigation of the Bargari sacrilege and related police firing cases.
