AAP Accuses BJP of Rs 22,000 Crore Subsidised Rice Scam in Delhi

Politics over subsidised rice has intensified in Delhi. The AAP has accused the BJP government of planning a Rs 22,000 crore scam. In response, the BJP has asked AAP leaders to withdraw the allegations within 24 hours and make a public apology. Failing to do so, legal action has been warned. In fact, AAP's Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed at a press conference that the Rekha Gupta government, along with a government corporation in Assam, had asked for subsidised rice from the FCI. They allege that this rice was planned to be sold to a private company in Haryana instead of reaching the poor. According to media reports, Saurabh Bharadwaj said that about 31,000 metric tonnes of rice was ready to be taken every week. He claims that rice available at about Rs 46 per kg was to be sold. It would have benefited about Rs 143 crore every week. The AAP alleges that if this system had lasted for three years, there would have been a scam of about Rs 22,000 crore. In this case, AAP MLA Sanjeev Singh Sirsa has also raised questions on the entire process of rice procurement from the BJP.
