Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee cast his vote at Mitra Institute amid political tension over the second phase of polling on Wednesday. He arrived at the polling station at 8 am as scheduled and cast his vote. He then faced the media and launched a scathing attack on the BJP and the Election Commission. Abhishek Banerjee alleged that central forces and police observers were acting out of their jurisdiction and trying to intimidate the general public. He claimed that such actions were against the democratic process. Referring to the raid by central forces on the house of Bhabanipur Trinamool Councillor Asim Basu on Tuesday night, he said that such incidents were happening repeatedly and were completely illegal. In a confident tone, Abhishek said, "There will be no use of intimidation. The BJP has been misled in the first phase, the second phase will be compromised." According to him, going door-to-door or creating pressure is an attempt to influence the voting environment, but in the end, people will give a befitting reply.
