A pall of gloom descended on Amethi and adjoining districts as soon as the news of his death was received. Supporters, public representatives and leaders of various political parties thronged his ancestral house at Achalpur in Jamun block throughout the day for last respects. He will be accorded a state funeral on Sunday. Senior leaders, including former Union minister Smriti Irani, deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, BJP state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, are likely to attend the funeral. The administration has completed preparations for the last rites. Aditi Tebhan Singh started his public life as a pracharak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He was jailed for nearly eight months for playing an active role in the movement to save democracy during the Emergency. He became an MLA for the first time on a Janata Party ticket in 1977. After the formation of the BJP, he played an important role in strengthening the organisation and was elected MLA from Gauriganj thrice in a row in 1991, 1993 and 1996. His simplicity and candour were the hallmarks of various parties that paid tributes to him on his death.
