AHMEDABAD: Ahead of the upcoming elections to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the Chandlodia ward has been in the eye of a political storm. The municipal corporation's decision to widen Arya Samaj Road has angered local residents. About 1,000 houses under the project are likely to go under deduction. Residents are now protesting for fear of demolition. Municipal corporation polls are to be held on April 26. With only a few days left for this crucial election, the issue of road deduction may create problems for the ruling party. Residents allege that they have been living here since the time of the Nagar Panchayat, and are now suddenly preparing to take away their houses. The Arya Samaj Road has been demarcated three months ago. Both the Railways and the AMC have been targeted for road widening in the area after the scheme.
