Following the assembly election results, there seems to be a split in Tamil Nadu's main opposition party AIADMK. Former chief minister and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) has come out in the open. The major faction led by senior leaders S P Velumani and C V Shanmugam have announced their support to Chief Minister Vijay's party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). Shanmugam said on Tuesday that it is the decision of the majority of AIADMK MLAs. After the crushing defeat in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, AIADMK has announced that it will support Vijay's TVK. He said that a faction of AIADMK MLAs will meet Chief Minister Vijay to support the Tamil Nadu government. AIADMK leader Shanmugam said, "Edappadi K Palaniswami proposed to become the chief minister with the support of DMK. However, most of the MLAs did not accept this proposal, as a result of the decision to form an alliance with any party of AIADMK, and the AIADMK MLA accepts his decision to support a new AIADMK government."
