Allahabad High Court Dismisses Petition Alleging Rahul Gandhi's Dual Citizenship

The Allahabad High Court has dismissed the alleged dual citizenship petition of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. The court said that the petitioner, advocate Ashok Pandey, and others could not produce a single document to substantiate their allegations. The petition alleged that Rahul Gandhi is not an Indian citizen but has British citizenship. The court said that the petitioner could not produce a single piece of evidence to prove that Rahul Gandhi has declared himself a British citizen. The bench of Justice Shekhar B. Saraf and Justice Awadhesh Kumar Chaudhary said that the only document the petitioner had recourse to was a letter from Cambridge University. The court said that this letter does not substantiate any of the allegations made in the petition. Earlier, the court had expressed doubts about hearing the matter as Rahul Gandhi's citizenship complaint is already pending with the central government. However, the Allahabad High Court had insisted that Gandhi's name had been'examined'in the back-of-the-court papers in the petition.
