Allahabad High Court Refuses to Allow Hijabs in Schools, Sparking Political Reactions

The Allahabad High Court has refused to allow the wearing of hijab in schools. While dismissing the petition of the Muslim student, the court said that the uniform is necessary for secularism. Now there are political reactions to this decision of the court. Former External Affairs Minister and senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid expressed his opinion on this. Salman Khurshid said, "The Supreme Court has decided this. The Supreme Court said that there is no need to go to essentiality. You just decide what are the automatic rights of a person, what clothes to wear, what food to eat, where you have to study, how to live. The Supreme Court has decided this. The Supreme Court had also decided that we will take it to a larger bench. I do not think that the decision of the Allahabad High Court will be very effective. The Supreme Court has given some indication on this and the decision that will be taken further." The mother of the Prayagraj student, Sukaina Rizvi, had filed a petition to issue a direction to wear hijab or Islamic headscarf in school.
