Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Vibrant Village Programme 2.0 at Natanpur in the Indo-Bangladesh border area of Katigara in Cachar district of Assam on Friday. Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Shah said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken several steps for the development of border areas. He said, such programs would be organized in 334 blocks and about 1,954 villages in 17 states of the country, as well as 140 border villages in Assam. He also said that development works have started in 334 blocks and about 2,000 villages along the Indo-Pakistan border.Terming the illegal encroachment a biggest problem in Assam, the Home Minister said, encroachers have occupied several villages. He said the Bharatiya Janata Party government has taken effective steps to stop encroachment in the last 10 years. He said a campaign is underway to clear illegal land encroachment in Assam under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma and the intruders will be identified and evicted step by step. He also criticized the Congress for not being able to solve the problem despite being in power for a long time.Mr. Amit Shah said BJP government is committed to make Assam a flood-free state in the next five years. He also claimed that significant work has been done in the state to develop road infrastructure, build tourist centers and fight terrorism. He said the Union Government has allocated around 15 lakh crore rupees for the development of Assam in the last ten years and the Vibrant Village Program is one of the most important parts of building a better Assam.
