Amit Shah Urges Parliament Discussion on NEET Paper Leak Issue

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to consult Opposition parties and facilitate a discussion in Parliament on the protests by students over the NEET paper leak issue, saying he was ready to remain present in the House and answer all questions raised by the Opposition. In a letter to the Speaker, HM Shah said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had already agreed on behalf of the government, during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, to hold a discussion on the issue. “I request you to consult the Opposition and, through mutual consensus, allocate as much time as you deem appropriate,” HM Shah said, adding that he intended to remain present in the House during the scheduled discussion and was prepared to answer all questions raised by Opposition members. HM Shah said the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 had already been discussed during the ongoing Monsoon Session. He pointed out that no Opposition member had raised the NEET examination issue during the discussion on the Bill. “Nevertheless, the government is ready to discuss this issue again,” he said. The Home Minister stressed that discussion and dialogue were essential to resolving issues in a democracy. He urged the LS Speaker to consult Opposition leaders and facilitate a constructive debate in which members from both the Treasury and Opposition benches could put forward their views. Speaking to reporters earlier in the day, HM Shah rejected suggestions that he was avoiding Parliament and said he had been regularly attending the Monsoon Session. He reiterated that the government had accepted the Opposition’s demand for a discussion and that he was ready to respond to questions in the House. (With agency inputs)
