Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday allocated guardian districts to 16 ministers in his Council of Ministers, a move aimed at strengthening coordination between the state government and district administrations. Announcing the allocations in a post on X, Sarma said the ministers would work closely with district administrations to help accelerate development initiatives and improve governance across the state. Under the new arrangement, Union minister-turned-state minister Rameswar Teli was assigned Tinsukia and Jorhat districts, while AGP president Atul Bora was allotted Kamrup (Metro) and Dhemaji. Charan Boro will oversee Kokrajhar, Baksa and Chirang, while Ajanta Neog has been assigned Morigaon and Kamrup districts. Ashwini Ray Sarkar was allotted Bongaigaon and Barpeta, Ashok Singhal received Darrang and Dhubri, and Bimal Bora was assigned Sivasagar and Charaideo. Former Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary will serve as guardian minister for Nalbari and Sonitpur, while Jayanta Mallabaruah has been assigned Tamulpur and Goalpara. Kaushik Rai will oversee Sribhumi and Hailakandi, Keshab Mahanta has been allotted South Salmara-Mankachar and North Lakhimpur, and Krishnendu Paul will be responsible for Dima Hasao and Cachar. Nilima Devi has been assigned Bajali and Udalguri, while Pijush Hazarika will oversee Nagaon, Hojai, Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong. Ranoj Pegu has been allotted Biswanath and Golaghat, while Susanta Borgohain will serve as guardian minister for Majuli and Dibrugarh. The guardian minister system is intended to facilitate closer engagement between ministers and district administrations, with ministers expected to monitor development projects, review implementation of government schemes and address district-level issues.
