As soon as the polling was over, the police arrested the campaign companions of the opposition candidate in Assam. As per the election rules, no candidate can campaign 48 hours before the polls. A complaint was filed with the police alleging violation of this rule. On 9 April, the police detained 3 members of the campaign team of Kunki Choudhury, a candidate for the Assam Legislative Assembly election. The Assam Jatiya Parishad, an alliance partner of the Congress, fielded Kunki Choudhury from the Guwahati constituency. The 27-year-old woman is the youngest candidate for the Assam election, denying all allegations made against her. Although the newcomer was the youngest candidate in the fray against the 70-year-old BJP candidate from the Guwahati constituency, Vijay Gupta, he came under the spotlight after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a series of attacks against him and his family. Sarma claimed that his family "insulted Hindus" by eating beef and sharing his picture on social media. His mother Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, who publicly supported him after the voting, were detained on Friday morning on the basis of an FIR filed by the party.
