Guwahati: The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell has re-arrestedAssam Civil ServiceofficerNupur Borain connection with a land fraud case, officials said on Tuesday.According to official sources, the re-arrest followed the registration of a fresh case based on a complaint filed by theDistrict Commissionerand Additional Commissioner of Barpeta district. Acting on the complaint, the CM Vigilance registered a new FIR against the 2019 batch ACS officer.As per the FIR, Bora is accused of facilitating illegal land mutations for more than 50 individuals by bypassing mandatory registration procedures. Investigators alleged that land records were unlawfully altered and mutations were carried out in violation of established norms.Officials said the alleged irregularities surfaced during a detailed probe into land related transactions carried out during Bora’s tenure. As part of the investigation, vigilance officials conducted raids at multiple locations in Barpeta district and seized around 70 land documents linked to various individuals. The seized records have been sent for forensic examination.Sources added that Bora was taken into custody after investigators found discrepancies in the seized documents that strengthened the case against her.This is not the first time the officer has faced vigilance action. In September last year, Bora was arrested while serving as Circle Officer of Goroimari in Kamrup district in a disproportionate assets case. During searches at her residences in Guwahati and Barpeta, vigilance officials recovered cash and jewellery, according to official records.The CM Vigilance Cell has stated that investigations are continuing to identify others allegedly involved in the land mutation case.Related
