Assam Police Arrest ULFA-I Cadre with Arms and Ammunition in Sivasagar District

: Avik Chakraborty : An active cadre of ULFA-I was arrested along with arms and ammunition at Palengi under Demow police station in Assam’s Sivasagar district on Wednesday.The cadre has been identified as Biren Chetia alias Rontu Asom. “After getting specific intelligence, our Sivasagar police team launched an crackdown and arrested the ULFA-I cadre from Palengi under Demow area of Sivasagar. We have recovered eight hand grenade, 1 bottle grenade, one 9 mm pistol, 10 live round bullets, Rs 13,500 cash and indiscriminate documents from his posession,” said Sivasagar Senior Superintendent of Police Papori Chetia. She added, “The ULFA-I cadre came in Palengi area to hand over the grenade and other ammunition to someone. Our arrest was made on the basis of specefic intelligence,”. Sources said he was a Myanmar -trained hardcore ULFA-I militant and further investigation has been underway
