Bangladesh Positive on Talks for PM Tarique Rahman's Visit to India

Bangladesh said on Tuesday (29 September 2026) that it is positive about the progress in the ongoing talks regarding the proposed visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India. This statement comes at a time when Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi met with Bangladesh Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir here as part of efforts to address the strain in relations between the two countries. After this meeting, Humayun Kabir said since this meeting, "We discussed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit and we are positive about it." However, he clarified that no date has been fixed yet for the proposed visit. He said, "The time will come later." Some media reports suggested a possible visit of Tarique Rahman to New Delhi in November. Humayun Kabir refused to respond to these speculations. He said, "I cannot discuss rumours. There are many rumours. I talk about reality. This is the reality that we had a very good meeting and I am confident that in the near future, we will have mutually beneficial outcomes based on the bilateral visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India and the visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Bangladesh," he said.
