In the $10 billion defamation case of US President Donald Trump, the BBC has sought help from a US court to obtain documents and statements related to his family members. The BBC says that Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump, her husband Jared Kushner and son Donald Trump Jr. may have important information and records related to the case. BBC lawyers said in a petition filed in a federal court in Florida that the three could not be subpoenaed because they are accompanied by the Secret Service and other security personnel. The BBC has asked the court for permission to send subpoenas by email and certified mail. Trump sued the BBC in December for $10 billion in damages. He has accused the BBC of libel and deceptive and unfair business practices. The case relates to a 2024 documentary in which Trump's speech was edited before the attack on the Capitol on 6 January 2021. The lawsuit alleges that the BBC tried to subpoena the three members of Trump's speech in order to manipulate the 2024 presidential election.
