Bihar MP's Controversial Statement on Women in Politics Sparks Outrage

Purnia: A controversial statement by independent MP from Purnia in Bihar, Pappu Yadav, has kicked up a political storm. MP Pappu Yadav has claimed that 90 per cent of women cannot do politics without going to the leaders'room. Bihar State Women's Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of this statement, issued a notice to Pappu Yadav and ordered him to explain within three days. Pappu Yadav claimed in a media interaction that politicians are at the forefront of exploiting women. Leaders from America to India have a vulture eye on women. In a video that has gone viral on social media, he is heard saying that daughters and women are being exploited from school, college to office. Chairman of the State Women's Commission has termed Pappu Yadav's statement as extremely disgusting. The notice states that the MP's statement hurts the self-esteem and social reputation of women active in politics. The commission has questioned the MP as to cancel his membership of the Lok Sabha, why Pappu Yadav was not even recommended for a discussion on the issue of women's reservation in Parliament earlier.
