BJP and Samajwadi Party Gear Up for Rajya Sabha Battle; Smriti Irani's Future Role Unclear

In Uttar Pradesh, 10 seats of the Upper House i.e. Rajya Sabha are falling vacant in November 2026. There is a possibility of a fair political fight between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi Party for these 10 seats. The 10 seats that are falling vacant include 8 BJP, 1 SP and 1 Bahujan Samaj Party members. In the context of the BJP camp, there are claims that Smriti Irani, a former Union Minister and MP from the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, is set to go to the Rajya Sabha. However, nothing is clear yet. BJP leaders have held a meeting on 28 September itself, in which the names of candidates for the Rajya Sabha have been discussed. However, if Smriti goes to the Rajya Sabha, three political questions are arising from it. 1. Will the BJP give the responsibility of Amethi to someone else? 2. Will Smriti once again join the cabinet of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led central government? 3. Will Smriti get any important role in UP? Let's find answers to these three questions.
