The Left and the BJP released their first list of candidates on Monday after the counting of votes was announced. Since then, the saffron camp has been at loggerheads. Party workers protested at the district BJP office in Alipurduar. They vandalised furniture and chairs at the party office for not liking the candidate. Angry party workers even set fire to the road in front of the district office. On Monday, the name of Paritosh Das was announced as the BJP candidate for the Alipurduar assembly constituency. Later, a group of BJP workers started a protest demanding the withdrawal of the candidate. The party workers are not asking for the candidate. Paritosh Das is the TMC's setting candidate. The district BJP leadership is in a fix over the public protest and vandalism at the district office. The protesters detained BJP's Alipurduar district president Mithu Das at the district office till late last night. Rana Das, a BJP worker, said that they do not want to change the candidate.
