South 24 Parganas was once known as TMC's bastion. TMC swept the region in the 2026 assembly polls. BJP state president Shamik Bhattacharya campaigned in Falta assembly constituency of the same district on Sunday (the Election Commission has ordered re-polling on May 21 after cancelling the election in this constituency) and gave a message to bring investment in the state. BJP is working to bring home Bengali businessmen and industrialists who are abroad or in other states. Many residents of South 24 Parganas go to work in the state as migrant laborers. Dragging the issue, BJP state president said, "South 24 Parganas is known as a district of migrant laborers. It is time to shake off this identity." He assured Bengali industrialists spread across the country that the BJP is calling for new industries in the district. Many Bengali engineers have important assignments in foreign countries, many have also created start-ups. They are doing business in Bengal this time, so that the BJP can return to the state. Shamik Bhattacharya, the state president of the BJP, also raised questions about the future of the BJP.
