BJP Wins Mayoral Elections in Pali and Ajmer, CPI-M Dominates in Addupur

In the 65-member Pali Municipal Corporation, the Congress had won 29 wards, while the BJP had 21 and Independents had 15 councillors. 33 votes were needed for a majority. Namita Bubkiya of the BJP got 33 votes in the poll and was elected mayor. Independent Rajbala Hingad got 29 and Sumitra Jain of the Congress got only 3 votes. That is, despite being the largest party of the Congress, the full support of its councillors could not get to the mayoral candidate. In Ajmer, the Congress had become the largest party by winning 37 wards. The BJP had 32 councillors and 11 independents. The majority mark was 41. The Congress needed four additional votes before the election, while the BJP had to rely on the support of independents to reach the majority. Anamika Sharma of the BJP won the mayoral election. She got 43 votes while the Congress was reduced to 37. Despite leading in the councillors'election, the Congress trailed in the final results. In Addupur, the BJP had won 53 wards, while the CPI-M had a majority of 80.
