BRS Accuses Congress of Attacking Party Workers During Telangana Municipal Elections Campaign

Hyderabad:Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao, on Friday, February 6, alleged that Congress supporters attacked his party workers while they were campaigning for the municipal elections in Telangana. The BRS leader alleged that District Congress Committee (DCC) president Vajresh Yadav and otherCongressworkers attacked MLAs Mallareddy, Marri Rajasekhar Reddy and other party leaders while they were campaigning in Lalgadi Malakpet in Medchal district. Congress alleged that BRS workers allegedly messed with the speaker wires of Congress’s campaign vehicle, which led to the clash. BRS also alleged that BRS Corporator Dedeepya Rao was attacked by Congress MLA Naveen Yadav and his followers in Jubilee Hills. However, Madhura Nagar police refuted the claim, saying that the Vengal Rao Nagar corporator had only engaged in an argument with Congress workers over a sewage pipe issue. A complaint was also filed alleging that “over 100 Congress supporters attacked BRS workers” and put MLAs Malla Reddy and Marri Rajasekhar Reddy in a “life-threatening situation.” The complaint has been filed in the name of D Ramesh, who identified himself as a BRS party worker. He stated that on Friday, Malla Reddy had come to visit former Sarpanch Cheedu Srinivas Reddy at his residence for a review meeting with party candidates and ward in-charges in relation to the election campaign for Alwal Municipality. Accordingly, he, along with a few other party workers reached the former Sarpanch’s residence at around 12:30 pm. At this time, a Congress party campaign vehicle was also parked in front of the residence with music playing at a very high volume, the complaint stated. Then, as the BRS meeting was being disturbed by the noise, he approached the driver and asked him to lower the volume and move the vehicle elsewhere. However, a while later, the vehicle was parked at the gate again with loud music blasting. When the complainant approached the vehicle again, Vajresh Yadav and his workers arrived at the spot and abused the complainant with casteist slurs, the complaint added. Vajresh Yadav also physically assaulted the complainant, pushed and kicked him, causing bleeding injuries, BRS has alleged. It also added that Congress workers kicked the gate of the former Sarpanch’s house, damaged vehicles in the compound, and attempted to barge inside to attack the MLAs. However, due to the timely intervention of security guards, the situation was de-escalated.
