Canada Imposes Tariffs on US Goods in Response to Trump's Trade War

In response to the U.S. tariffs, Canada has also imposed tariffs ranging from 15 to 50 percent on the United States. In a video message Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said, "We have everything we need to move forward and make progress." Canada's move adds to an 18-month trade war between the two countries. Canada's move follows the U.S. imposition of 50 percent tariffs on about $20 billion of Canadian goods last month. The U.S. retaliatory tariffs include about $20 billion in U.S. goods. It includes tariffs on products ranging from steel and furniture to clothing and electronics. In a video message Tuesday after the tariffs went into effect, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said, "We have everything we need to move forward and make progress." He tried to portray himself as a strong bulwark against Trump's trade aggression and called the country "sitting on a war footing."
