The state government had written to the Union Home Ministry to keep the central forces in the state for some more time to control the post-poll violence and maintain law and order. The request has been approved by Amit Shah's ministry. The central forces are in the state till July 20. The state had asked for 500 companies of forces. The West Bengal government had written to the Ministry of Home Affairs on May 16. The letter had also requested that 500 companies of central forces be deployed in the state to prevent political violence and maintain law and order in the state in the aftermath of the assembly election results. The state had also requested that the forces be in the state till October this year. The ministry responded to the letter on Wednesday, May 20. The Centre has agreed to deploy central forces in the state on June 20 even though the state did not respond to the request. Out of these 500 companies of forces, 200 companies of CRPF, 150 companies of BSF, 150 companies of CISF, 50 companies of ITBP and 50 companies of SBSP were deployed in the state.
