China has started building the world's largest hydropower dam in Tibet. The dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo River is also being called a water bomb for India. This hydroelectric dam of China is just 50 km away from the border of Arunachal Pradesh. The Yarlung Tsangpo River flows through the Tibetan Plateau. This ambitious project of China is said to be a matter of concern not only for India, but also for Bangladesh and Tibet. China is about to spend about 167 billion dollars on this big project. Once completed, this project will be bigger than the world's largest dam'Three Gorges Dam'and will generate three times more electricity. A 2020 report by the Australia-based think tank'Lowy Institute'said that the control of rivers in the Tibetan Plateau will allow China to strangle India's economy. Experts from around the world say that the new dam will divert the flow of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, which flows across Arunachal Pradesh or Bangladesh, to India.
