China Creates New District in Xinjiang Amid Border Security Concerns

Beijing: China has created a new district (county) in Xinjiang near the border between Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Afghanistan. The new district, called Senlong, is located near the Karakoram mountains. Questions have been raised about the purpose of creating this district. The threat to India from this district has increased. On the one hand, China has increased its activities in the border areas when the world's attention is focused on the US-Iran war. The geography of the district is very important. The district is very close to the sensitive Wakhan Corridor. This corridor is a very narrow strip. This strip separates Xinjiang from PoK and Tajikistan. The decision to create the district is being viewed from the perspective of border security and governance. Iran-US rapprochement was about to take place; in the meantime, Netanyahu's call came and all the rebels are using this route to infiltrate into Xinjiang, which the Chinese government has been fearing for the past 26 years.
