China Emerges as Economic Powerhouse in Central Asia Amid Ukraine War

Beijing / Moscow: Most of Central Asia was part of the Soviet Union. China remained just an economic partner for years. But the Ukraine war has changed this equation. The Ukraine war has completely changed the balance of Central Asia. China has now become an economic superpower in that region too and is dictating terms and conditions. Russia, which until now had a veto in that region, has completely changed its position. China is not trying to carve out a niche in Eurasia but is rewiring its position in the region. It has taken control of the region's critical network of logistics, energy, supply chains, finance, and digital governance. Beijing is engaging in a kind of "armed interdependence." China is now building the infrastructure and rules under which smaller countries operate. After Russia's weakening, however, China now has complete independence in Central Asia.
