China Sentences Top Military Officials to Death for Corruption in Shocking Move

Ministers who were handpicked by Xi Jinping himself are today waiting to die behind bars. Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfuo, the alleged masterminds of China's rocket force, were expelled from the Communist Party in 2024. They are accused of taking multi-million bribes in military purchases and rocket force modernisation projects. The sentences are not limited to these two individuals, but are a clear message to Jinping's own military that disloyalty or corruption will not be tolerated. The court ruling exposes both the rigidity and secrecy of the Chinese judiciary. The military court has sentenced these two leaders to death, but has also granted a reprieve of two years.
