Rajanna's remarks came after Congress Working Committee member Siddaramaiah filed a petition in a Bengaluru court seeking a stay on the telecast and circulation of defamatory audio and video clips related to the sting operation. Speaking to the media at Adbangaluru, Rajanna, a close aide of Siddaramaiah, said, "You tell me, who was behind the CD of Ramesh Jarkiholi? The people who made his CD have also tried to frame Siddaramaiah." The political speculation has intensified again after the ad controversy broke out in 2021 over the CD in which Ramesh Jarkiholi's name was linked. Jarkiholi resigned as a minister in the then BJP government after that controversy. However, Rajanna's statement did not reveal any direct evidence of anyone's role in the current case. Rajanna also claimed that when he was a minister in Siddaramaiah's previous cabinet, he wanted a sting operation against him as well.
