Congress Chief Gaurav Gogoi Files Nomination in Assam, Vows Reforms and Women's Empowerment

New Delhi: Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi filed his nomination from the Jorhat seat. Significantly, he is contesting the assembly elections for the first time and is preparing to become an MP-turned-MLA. Speaking to the media before filing his nomination, Gogoi said that this election is a great opportunity to reform the politics of Assam. He said that the level of politics in the state has come down so much in the last few years that it is a shame to be out. He appealed to the people that everyone should come together to make the society and politics clean. He promised that if the Congress wins, women will not be forced to attend political rallies or meetings to take advantage of government schemes. Gogoi alleged that the BJP is insulting women. Instead of giving them the benefits of government schemes, they are being forcibly called to party rallies and meetings. He said that the funds for the schemes belong to the people, not to any party. He promised to fulfill the expectations of the people and "develop a new Assam." Senior BJP leader Hitendra Goswami, who has been elected to the assembly five times in a row, said that the seat will be contested by the BJP.
