The suspense over the new Kerala CM has ended. VD Satheesan has been named as the new CM of the state. Congress leader VD Satheesan was the party high command's choice for the next chief minister of Kerala. When Congress leaders announced his name in New Delhi, Satheesan was at the'Cantonment House'in Thiruvananthapuram, which is the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition. Soon after the announcement, supporters of Satheesan erupted in joy and burst crackers and distributed sweets in many parts of the state. Massive celebrations were also held in Paravur in Ernakulam district, from where he has been representing the assembly constituency since 2001. Satheesan was considered the front-runner for the post and was also backed by UDF allies during the selection process. Apart from Satheesan, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala and Congress MP ID Venugopal were also considered as possible candidates for the post.
