Congress Struggles to Resolve Infighting in Punjab Ahead of Assembly Elections

For the Congress, which is in the midst of an exercise to fine-tune its preparations for next year's assembly elections in Punjab, it remains a challenge to completely break the party's infighting in the state. Though the party high command has tried to strike a balance by assigning different roles and responsibilities to key leaders of the state on its behalf in the formation of the election team, the matter still does not seem to be resolved. The day after the Punjab Congress election team was announced on Wednesday, senior party leader Manish Tewari, the Lok Sabha MP from Chandigarh, did not hesitate to openly express his displeasure over his negligence in it. He also took a jibe at the omission of merit in the selection of Punjab's election team and questioned its criterion.
