Congress- TVK Rift Over Prime Ministerial Candidate for 2029 Lok Sabha Elections

In Tamil Nadu, a tussle has broken out between the Congress and TVK over the prime ministerial face for the Lok Sabha elections. Tourism Minister and Congress leader S. Rajesh Kumar has warned that Congress ministers will resign from the state cabinet if TVK does not support Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate for the 2029 general elections. He asked TVK to clear its stand on the PM post at the swearing-in ceremony of George Robinson, who took over as the president of the Kanyakumari West District Congress Committee. He asserted that the Congress party will only support Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha elections. Ministers, MLAs and members of the ruling C. Joseph Vijay's party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) have raised the demand for Vijay as the prime ministerial candidate for the next Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, Rajesh Kumar said that if the alliance partner does not support Congress on the issue, he and his colleague P. Viswanathan (Higher Education Minister) are ready to resign from their posts.
