Congress Wins Datia Assembly Seat By-Election; BJP Receives More Votes Than Previous Election

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday said that the verdict given by the people of Datia in the by-election to the assembly seat is the same and the victory may have been of the Congress, but the BJP has got 1,700 votes more in this by-election than the last assembly election. In the by-election held in Datia assembly seat, Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh defeated his nearest rival and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ashutosh Tiwari by 6,016 votes. Ghanshyam Singh got 66,757 votes while Tiwari got 60,741 votes. Azad Samaj Party candidate Damodar Yadav got 22,527 votes which is the third highest. According to experts, Azad Samaj Party (Kashiram) caused a lot of damage to the Congress. After the defeat of the BJP, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav told reporters here that in the last assembly election Datia seat was won by the Congress and even today it is with the Congress. He said, "It is a different matter that we got 1,700 votes more than the last assembly election."
