A photograph of former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi appearing for an MA examination in Panjab University has sparked a controversy. Former Senator of Panjab University and former Mayor of Chandigarh Devesh Moudgil has demanded strict action against the former Chief Minister over this photograph. Devesh Moudgil has written a letter to the Vice President, the Governor of Punjab, the Chief Minister of the state and the Vice Chancellor of Panjab University on Sunday. He has objected to the photograph being taken in the examination hall on 20 August and has demanded action under the UMC rules of the university. Moudgil said that the photograph published in the newspaper on 21 August raises questions about the violation of examination rules. He said, "If it is proved that any banned electronic device was taken or used inside the examination hall, then action should be initiated immediately under the UMC rules of the university." The former Mayor questioned the university administration as to who took this photograph, which device was used, how the device was used and whether any other person reached the examination centre with the CCTV footage or whether any action was taken by the Chief Minister.
