Coronation Bridge Height Bar Installation to Ensure National Security

The height bar sits on the traditional Coronation Bridge built during the British era. The bridge is of great importance to establish communication between Siliguri-Dooars and North East India and for national security reasons. In view of this, the National Highways Authority has taken steps to extend the life of the Coronation Bridge or Baghpul. On Sunday, iron height bars were installed on both ends of the bridge over the Teesta River to prevent heavy traffic on the bridge. The installation of the height bar began on Sunday morning. Earlier, when the height bar was installed on one side, it was broken by a lorry. Due to the state assembly election process, the height bar was installed on both ends of the bridge in 1941. The height bar is kept at the height of the bridge from the road 3.6মিটার. It is hoped that the height bar will not allow lorries weighing more than 10 tons or vehicles of extra height to pass through the bridge.
