The Tamil Nadu unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI (M)) has asked the state government to appeal against a Madras High Court order allowing a rally by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). A statement issued by the party's state secretary, P. Shanmugam, expressed concern over the court's decision. The CPI (M) claimed that given the RSS's history and the allegations of violence associated with it, allowing the rally was a matter of concern for peace and security. The CPI (M) alleged in its statement that the RSS had resorted to violence to expand the organisation since its inception. The party claimed incidents of violence there, referring to districts such as Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, and Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu. The party also accused the RSS of evading obligations related to official registration and taxes on donations by using legal provisions. The statement also said that the organisation projects its non-political image through relief and charity activities.
