CRPF Constable Dies in Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound During Pre-Induction Training in Manipur

A 32-year-old Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable from Uttar Pradesh, who was undergoing pre-induction training, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a camp at Motbung in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on August 5. The deceased, Vineet Singh from Uttar Pradesh, allegedly used his service weapon at around 8 am, prompting an ongoing police investigation. The incident occurred during the morning hours inside the tactical camp under the jurisdiction of the Sapermeina Police Station. Constable Vineet Singh allegedly shot himself under the chin using his assigned INSAS service rifle. Camp personnel rushed to the barracks after hearing the gunshot, but the constable had already succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A thorough search of his living quarters and the surrounding barrack area yielded no suicide note explaining the alleged act. The local police shifted the body to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal to complete the mandatory post-mortem examination and other legal formalities. Vineet Singh hailed from Purva Bajirao village in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district. At the time of the incident, he was attached to the F/112 Battalion of the CRPF. He had been temporarily posted to the Motbung camp to undergo pre-induction training alongside the C/122 Company. The police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Sapermeina Police Station has registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Investigators said the exact cause or motive behind the alleged suicide remains unknown. They are examining service records, speaking with fellow trainees, and reviewing recent communications to determine whether any factors may have contributed to the incident.
