Delhi High Court Continues Contempt Case Against AAP Leaders Over Defamatory Online Posts

In the contempt case, the Delhi High Court was on Monday told that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal and other party leaders have not yet deleted internet media posts that were defamatory of the court against Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma. Petitioner Ashok Chaitanya gave this information to a bench of Justices Navin Chawla and Arun Bhardwaj. The court directed Chaitanya to file an affidavit and bring the relevant material on record. The bench also gave six weeks time to others, including Kejriwal, to file their replies. The next hearing on the matter is on November 16. The court is hearing a plea seeking contempt action against people who posted derogatory material against Justice Sharma on the internet. The suo motu criminal contempt proceedings were initiated after Justice Sharma took note of various internet media posts and videos shared by the respondents in connection with the proceedings to recuse himself from the case in the excise scam case.
