In a big development involving late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s family, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notice to his mother, Rani Kapur, on applications filed by Priya Sachdev seeking dismissal of a civil suit instituted by her mother-in-law. Rani had earlier approached the court alleging that Priya and others had orchestrated a ‘fraudulent family trust.’ As reported by the news agency ANI, the matter came up before Justice Mini Pushkarna, who granted Rani Kapur four weeks’ time to file her response to the applications filed by Priya. The court further allowed Priya to file a rejoinder, if any, within two weeks thereafter. In addition, the High Court also issued notice to Rani Kapur on a separate application filed by Priya Sachdev alleging that her mother-in-law had committed perjury in the proceedings. Senior Advocate Akhil Sibal, appearing on behalf of Sunjay’s widow, claimed that several allegations levelled in Rani Kapur’s suit were “utterly false". What Did Sunjay Kapur’s Mother Allege? Last month, Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, filed a fresh case in the Delhi High Court against her daughter-in-law Priya Kapur and actress Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan. In her plea, Rani Kapur alleged that the two parties orchestrated a “fraudulent family trust" to unlawfully strip her of her entire estate. Later, Rani’s daughter, Mandhira Kapur, also talked about the same while speaking to Republic TV and said, “She’s very clear on the fact that she has to get everything that she and dad built back and she has to look after the grandchildren. What has happened with her is extremely unfair. She’s lost her husband, her son, and the legacy they built together. We want to make sure she has that peace." Sunjay Kapur passed away in June 2025. Ever since, Priya and Karisma’s children have been fighting over his wealth. While Karisma is not directly involved in the case, she is representing her children.
