Delhi Protests: Thousands Demand Change to Reservation System, Call for Withdrawal of SC/ST Act

On Friday, after 45 days of protests by the cockroach Janata Party, the national capital of Delhi once again witnessed a show of strength. Thousands of protesters demonstrated against the reservation and equity rules of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The protesters carried banners, posters and saffron flags and raised slogans in support of their demands. The protesters demanded a change in the caste-based reservation system. They said that the benefits of reservation should reach those who really need it. Many protesters demanded to make economic status the basis of reservation. During the demonstration, some people also protested against the SC / ST Act and demanded its withdrawal. They said that no law should be misused against any person and the government should take necessary steps to stop its misuse. The rules of reservation need to be changed now. The protesters also raised slogans against the now-suspended UGC equity rules and demanded a change in the government on this issue. The secretary of the National Council of Indian Farmers, Sudhir Chauhan, said that the new rules of the UGC should be brought back.
