Delhi Tightens Security Amid Protests, Restricts App-Based Services

Security has been tightened in Delhi amid protests. App-based cabs, food delivery, quick commerce and logistics services have been advised to limit their services in areas under Section 163 after metro stations were shut down for security reasons. Police have also appealed to citizens to avoid non-essential travel in restricted areas and cooperate in maintaining law and order. According to reports, I4C (Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre), which comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has asked GitHub to block the Bitchat app. Bitchat is a Bluetooth mesh network-based messaging app. The app allows messaging even without internet or mobile networks. Delhi Police is investigating the use of Bluetooth messaging apps during the'Parliament Chalo'march. According to I4C, such apps can be used during internet shutdowns. The agency says these devices can be used to spread misinformation about organised crime, other networks, and other unlawful activities.
