Rigging is not new in Bengal. The Election Commission was also determined to curb these malpractices this time. The Commission had issued a directive for the Bengal assembly elections. The directive issued on April 21 said that putting perfume, glue or any kind of substance on the button of the EVM would be considered tampering and it is an electoral offence. Then the matter of perfume was not properly understood. This was never heard or known despite Bengal having a close relationship with it since 1991. However, during the 34 years of Left rule, the scientific ringing was definitely explained by a friend of mine. The glue or the liquid of the water made the software of the EVM malfunction, but the commission's logic about the perfume was not well understood. Later, an acquaintance from Bengal said that TMC supporters apply perfume on the button of their candidate so that the voter's finger can be sniffed to see who else's name is recorded in the voting list.
