: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tripura following requests from several political parties, including the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in view of the Village Committee elections scheduled for September 28 in the state’s tribal areas. The SIR exercise, which was earlier scheduled to begin on September 5, has now been deferred. The revision will use January 1, 2027, as the qualifying date. According to the revised schedule issued by the ECI and shared by the Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house visits across the state from November 6 to December 5, 2026. The draft electoral rolls will subsequently be published on December 12, 2026, allowing voters and other stakeholders to submit claims and objections. Following the scrutiny and disposal of claims and objections, the final electoral rolls for Tripura will be published on February 15, 2027. The revised timeline comes after political parties sought a postponement of the exercise, citing the September 28 Village Committee elections in the state’s tribal areas.
