Election Commissioner Shares Emotional Episode with Former PM Manmohan Singh

In his forthcoming book India and I: A Hundred Memories, Not a Memoir, Quraishi has shared an emotional episode involving former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. The book is soon to be published, in which he has mentioned 100 important experiences and incidents related to his long career in the Indian Administrative Service. Quraishi has written in his book that in 2012, angry with the comments of some Union Ministers about the functioning of the Election Commission of India, he had approached the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and complained to him. After listening to him, Manmohan Singh had said, "If you feel so, then I will commit suicide." According to Quraishi, this incident took place during the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections. At that time, the then Law Minister Salman Khurshid had promised at an election rally that if his party came to power, it would raise a complaint against the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
