Elections for 12 Rajya Sabha Seats Announced: BJP-led Alliance Expected to Win Eight Seats in Uttar Pradesh

The Election Commission has announced the date for elections to 12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal. Polling will be held on October 16. Most political eyes are on the 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP-led alliance is likely to win eight seats based on the current assembly strength, while the Samajwadi Party is set to lose two seats. But the most political crisis is going to be for the Bahujan Samaj Party. The BSP's representation in Parliament may end after this Rajya Sabha election. The BJP's total strength in the Rajya Sabha is expected to increase by one seat as it prepares to win one seat in West Bengal. The seat was vacated after the resignation of actress Rukmini Mallick. She was sent to the House by the Trinamool Congress before being voted out of power in the assembly elections held earlier this year. In Uttar Pradesh, based on the current strength of the parties in the assembly, the BJP-led alliance is expected to win eight seats, while the SP's representation in parliament may not increase after this August.
