The body of former Deputy Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Ashish Banerjee, was found hanging at the TMC office in Birbhum. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Ashish Banerjee received 87,687 votes, while Saha received 1,11,920 votes and won the Rampurhat seat. Police said that the body has been sent for postmortem. The 74-year-old Banerjee was a senior TMC leader. Ashish Banerjee had won five consecutive terms from Rampurhat from 2001 to 2021. He lost the assembly election this year to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dhruba Saha by a margin of about 24,000 votes. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Ashish Banerjee received 87,687 votes, while Saha received 1,11,920 votes and won the Rampurhat seat.
