Rajkot: After the recent increase in the IAS cadre structure of the administrative system in the state of Gujarat, there is a movement to increase the number of IPS officers in the police system. According to highly informed sources, the cadre strength is being considered to meet the current shortage of IPS officers in the state. Although no official proposal or decision has been announced yet, there is a strong possibility that more than one and a half dozen new posts will be added in the coming time. Shortage of officers and the mathematics of retirement: As per the current statistical situation, the sanctioned strength of the IPS cadre in Gujarat is 208 officers. As against this, only 193 IPS officers are currently serving in the state, which directly means that there is still a shortage of 15 officers. This situation may become more serious in the coming months, as senior IPS officer of the state Shamsher Singh is retiring at the end of March, followed by the retirement of four officers in the month of June.
